PATRICK DEMARCHELIER is one of the world’s elite among photographers and has seen his work published in the portfolios of the major international fashion magazines. He has also regularly been recruited to shoot extravagant advertising campaigns for high-profile brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Estée Lauder, Armani, Versace, Calvin Klein, L’Oreal, Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic and Christian Dior. He spent 15 years at Vogue before signing an exclusive contract in 1992 with Harper’s Bazaar and Hearst Publications that continues to this day. Patrick Demarchelier’s images have been shown at a large number of exhibitions and he has published four books – Fashion Photography (1989) Patrick Demarchelier: Photographs (1995), Exposing Elegance (1997) and Forms (1998).
In 1989, Princess Diana asked him to portray her, becoming her official photographer and the first non-British person to photograph the Royal Family. Patrick was commissioned not once, but twice, for the coveted Pirelli Calendar. He photographed years 2005 and 2007.
Celebrated in the pages of the most important international magazines, Demarchelier is undoubtedly one of the master fashion photographers of our era. His work has been published in the American, British, French and Italian editions of Vogue, in Mademoiselle and Glamour and other magazines around the world including Harper’s Bazaar, Premier, Life and Rolling Stone.
Patrick Demarchelier was born outside Paris in 1943, spent his childhood in the northern harbour town of Le Havre, and moved to New York in 1975.
