FAQs

Who is Eligible for the Lucie Awards?

A photographer must have dedicated over 50 years to photography to be eligible for the Lifetime achievement award. All other categories of achievement require an individual to have dedicated at least 30 years to photography with the exception of the Humanitarian Award and the Impact Award. These last two awards are not age related.

What are the Award Categories?

Yearly Awards:

  • Lifetime Achievement
  • Achievement in Fine Art
  • Achievement in Portraiture
  • Achievement in Fashion
  • Achievement in Photojournalism
  • Achievement in Documentary
  • Humanitarian Award
  • Impact Award (given to a photographer whose work has made a substantial impact within the year)
  • Spotlight/Visionary Award

Awards nominated when merited by the Advisors:

  • Achievement in Sports
  • Double Exposure (to a photographer who excels in photography and another medium)
  • Achievement in Architecture Photography

How are the Awards Nominated?

Each year the Advisory Board nominates deserving individuals across a variety of categories who will be honored during the Lucie Awards ceremony. Once these nominations have been received from our advisors around the world, we determine the top three to five nominees which are sent to a select group of advisors to choose an honoree in each category.

The honorees are pre-announced in May before the Lucie Awards.

What are the Support Category Awards?

Support Categories are presented to individuals and organizations who are an integral part of crafting an image. The public is invited to nominate those from the creative community to compete for this honor. These nominations will go out to the Photography Advisory Board, who will select the final award winners.
